THE LOUISIANA CATAHOULA LEOPARD STOCK DOGS COME TO A CANADIAN RANCH: RANCH O COLOR The Louisiana Catahoula Leopard dog, like most stock dogs have a born-in natural instinct to herd livestock. The Catahoulas have long been popular in the Southern United States for herding cattle. Catahoulas are known for their "unique glass eyes", a pale translucent whitish-blue eye. The Catahoulas are very popular in their home state of Louisiana and the Southern States. They are a rare commodity anywhere else, especially Western Canada. This versatile breed has also been used in search and rescue, drug detection, and companions for the handicap. Then it comes to herding cattle, sheep, or hogs, they are called the Four Footed Hired Hand! The Catahoula is a medium to tall dog with a broad chest, strong legs, and a wide skull. Weighing between 50-95 pounds, slick short hair, and are mottled-colored. Their unusual characteristics is, they have somewhat webbed feet, giving them good traction in snow or mud.
